Winter Food - A Garden for Wildlife card by Hannah Longmuir
Winter Food’ is a beautifully detailed drawing of goldfinches feasting on teasels. In the winter, when food sources are scarce & the weather is harsh, seed heads and hollow stems left unpruned provide shelter for insects as well as food for birds & mammals. Goldfinches especially love the spiky seed heads of teasels. The rich high-fat seeds help them keep warm on the long, cold nights of winter. This is excellent news as it means that less cutting back and more general untidiness in the garden is good for wildlife!
