Emma Dunbar Wild Flowers, Mown Grass
Emma Dunbar’s aim whether gathering or arranging ingredients – glimpses of journeys, patterns from familiar settings and objects collected along the way – is to create an image that communicates the richness of the original source of inspiration, more atmosperic than literal.
Emma Dunbar‘s attraction to vivid colours and the decorative qualities in everyday objects provides the essence for her art.
She works mainly on board in acrylic, occasionally incorporating collage with gold and silver leaf and her training as a printmaker is evident both in the use of blocks of flat colour and in the way Emma scratches through surfaces to reveal pre-laid colours underneath.
Emma Dunbar’s influences come from travelling in India, Cornish holidays and the chaos of family life whilst drawing inspiration from the work of artists including Mary Fedden, Milton Avery and Daphne McClure.
